December/January 2009/2010 NewsletterDear Friends In a time when there are a growing number of people who do not recognise or celebrate Christmas, it is important that we tell the story of Jesus’ birth and show clearly why we rejoice and celebrate. The angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, "... take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." (Matthew1: 20-21)
Jesus born for each of us. The story doesn't stop at Christmas; this is only a beginning. We must continue to tell our faith stories. The Good News of Jesus is something to celebrate and pass on every day of the year. In the church we have had a varied busy year. The building plans are continuing to move forward. Draft details of the plans are later in this newsletter. Please pray for guidance in the many decisions that will be made as we decide how our buildings can be used in God's service in the town. We have enjoyed the Vision4Life Bible Year in various activities and now we are entering the Prayer Year. Activities for this are being planned. A prayer sheet so that we can all pray regularly for each other is now available. As we journey into the New Year, I will be taking a break from my role as Minister to spend time studying and widening my experience. I am hoping to spend several weeks working in a church in Southern Africa, probably Botswana. I am confident that through the guidance of the church Elders, you will all work together and support each other during this time. I pray that when we come back together there will be exciting stories to share and a renewal of our vision for the future of Chesham URC. I wish you all God's blessing and peace this Christmas and in the New Year.
